 | TB022 - HY-II 328X Carriage Control problem on JES2
J.D.S. MicroProcessing Technical Bulletin ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date Written: 09/20/89 Submitted by: Jim Beaky Sequence: 1 of 1 FileID: 4.TB022 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ HY-II 328X Carriage Control problem on JES2 One of our HYDRA-II customers reported a problem where the vertical spacing of their 3286 print was not functioning properly. The problem turned out to be a gen parameter within JES2 for the printer devices. This parameter for 328X printers determines whether or not carriage control is to be supported. According to the IBM documentation the two selections available are "CCTL" and "NO CCTL". Further, IBM doc. also states that "CCTL" should ONLY be specified in SNA environments. Since Assemblies of God is a non-SNA shop they specified that parameter to "NO CCTL". When their 3286 print failed, they ran traces which indicated that no carriage control information was reaching the printer. When they changed this parameter to "CCTL" so carriage control data would be passed to the printer, their problem was resolved. The two red flags to watch for are: 1. JES2 2. The IBM documentation that specifies that for these 328X printers CCTL should ONLY BE USED in SNA environ- ments. We have just proven this wrong for devices connected to HYDRA II.
