HYDRAź 3000:
Asynchronous Interface
The Asynchronous Interface Module provides 3270 emulation for PCs and ASCII terminals at speeds up to 115.2 Kbps, with support for virtually every popular ASCII terminal or PC communications software on the market. These devices can communicate with mainframe applications as local 327x terminals. New terminals can be added, or existing ones modified, using HYDRA 3000’s flexible terminal definition tables.
The Asynchronous Interface Module also provides emulation for IBM’s 328x and 3211 classes of printers, enabling ASCII printers to receive 328x or 3211 mainframe reports.
A terminal device connected to HYDRA 3000 can maintain up to four concurrent 3270 sessions locally, remotely, through HYDRA-Link (See Resource Sharing), and among multiple host mainframes. One of the four sessions can be a 328x or 3211 printer.
Port security is achieved through multilevel password, callback, audit trail and positive disconnect security systems (See Dial-in Security).
Enhanced modem support allows flexible handshaking. Configurable modem setup sequences allow HYDRA 3000 to initialize modems prior to use, thereby restoring modem configurations in the event of power loss or modem RAM corruption.
DISPLAY OPTIMIZATION
In a feature known as "redundant data suppression," HYDRA 3000 compares each new 3270 screen with the previous screen, then decides whether it is more efficient to send the entire new screen to the terminal, or just the changed characters (and cursor commands as needed).
BUILT-IN SUPPORT
• Multiple 3270 sessions running concurrently – activated by hot-key sequences
• SNA mode – emulates 3274-1A cluster controller with support for 3278 models 2- 5, and 3279, model 2, 3 (LU Type 2), as well as 328x (LU Type 3 or 1) printers
• non-SNA mode – no need for VTAM – emulates 3274-1B non-SNA controller with support for 3278 model 2, 3, 4, 5 and 3279 model 2, 3 screen sizes, as well as 3286 printer
• 3211/1403 system printer capability
• Extended Attributes (7-color, blinking, reverse-video, underline) Alternate Character Sets, Write Structured Fields
• Redundant data suppression
• Key-ahead feature – allows continued keying without waiting for screen prompts
• Display screen feature (with security) – allows the screen image of one attached terminal to be displayed on another
