newlogoHYDRAź 3000: Unit Security
HYDRA 3000 is one of the most flexible and secure async dial-in controllers available. It can support up to 256 dial-in lines with either callback or pass-through security invoked for any port.

PASSWORD VALIDATION
In addition to any mainframe security employed, HYDRA 3000 has its own password structure which can be activated on a port-by-port basis. Each password can be from 1 to 12 characters in length, and more than 5000 unique passwords can be defined to each HYDRA 3000. Multiple security levels provide complete control of access to all of the HYDRA 3000 functions.

CALLBACK SECURITY
Callback security requires a dial-in user to operate from a predetermined location. When the caller enters a valid password with an associated callback telephone number, HYDRA 3000 displays a message to the caller indicating that the password has been accepted, and that callback security is being activated. HYDRA 3000 then disconnects the telephone line and initiates a dialing sequence to connect with the caller at the associated callback number. Once the connection has been made, HYDRA 3000 requires password reentry prior to permitting access to the mainframe. Failure to correctly reenter the password will result in HYDRA 3000 immediately disconnecting the line and returning the port to an idle state.

Same-port callback security calls the user back from the same port as he dialed-in on. This requires dial-in and callback over the same modems.

Alternate-port callback, providing maximum security, accepts incoming calls only on ports which do not have system access, then calls the user back from one of a set of callback ports. These ports and their associated modems and phone lines are set to block incoming calls.

Although not necessarily a security feature, callback-on-the-fly allows the caller the convenience to be dialed back at any location. Upon entering a password, a caller is prompted for a callback number or may be required to acknowledge or override an existing callback number.

POSITIVE DISCONNECT
HYDRA 3000 will send appropriate SNA or non-SNA notification to the host system to terminate a session should the modem disconnect or the line drop during a session. This prevents another caller from dialing in and accessing a session from a previous caller.

INACTIVITY TIME-OUT
HYDRA 3000 has a configurable inactivity time-out feature which will terminate a session and drop the modem line (force DTR on the modem down) should activity cease on a port for a specified time.

AUDIT TRAIL
HYDRA 3000’s audit trail feature can generate an activity log for each port and send the ASCII detail to a printer or PC attached to the designated audit trail port. User IDs (not passwords), callback attempts, invalid access attempts, port resets, and unit error logs are some of the events reported.
Audit trail features mandatory and fallback modes. In fallback mode, the audit trail data will automatically route to a secondary port should operations on the primary port cease (which might occur if the printer jams or runs out of paper). When configured for mandatory mode, communications via HYDRA 3000 will be terminated should operations on the audit trail port cease.
