Enhanced RS422 Adapter

The Enhanced RS-422 Adapter offers an alternative to the RS-232 interface on both the Asynchronous Interface Module and the QICC Interface Module, making it possible to connect asynchronous devices at distances in excess of one mile, while providing the security of electrical spike protection and redundant standby ports.

TRANSMIT DATA FURTHER
RS-422 uses a balanced electrical transmission protocol over two pairs of wires, with no control signals, allowing attachment of devices at distances over thousands of feet, greatly exceeding RS-232 specifications at tens of feet.

AUTO-SENSING
The Enhanced RS-422 Adapter automatically senses whether the attached device is using RS-422 or RS-232 transmission protocol, then transmits and receives data accordingly. EIA pinouts for both protocols exist on each DB25 connector, so that RS-422 and RS-232 devices can be intermixed on the same adapter

SPIKE PROTECTION
The Enhanced RS-422 Adapter protects against potentially damaging electrical spikes coming in over the data lines from lightning activity. Spikes are shunted to chassis ground in the adapter instead of being passed to the more vulnerable components on the connected Asynchronous or QICC Interface Module.

REDUNDANT PORT FEATURE
A unique feature of the Enhanced RS-422 Adapter is the provision to connect a pair of Asynchronous or QICC Interface Modules to one Adapter, providing a 2:1 port ratio on each DB25 connector with one port active and one on standby. The HYDRA 3000 will automatically detect a port, board, or whole-unit failure, switching data traffic to the standby port on the redundant Interface Module until the problem can be diagnosed and corrective action taken. This allows for a variety of redundancy scenarios.

COMPATIBILITY
All features of the connected Asynchronous Interface Module or QICC Interface Module remain unaffected by the use of the Enhanced RS-422 Adapter.
